As part of our promise to help children realise their full potential, Oticon is happy to introduce a new member of the Safari family – the Safari Super Power. Introducing a range of new features, Safari SP is specifically designed to help children overcome the challenges of severe to profound hearing loss. This includes not only the audibility but also the higher signal fidelity and comfort these children need to preserve the speech signal in its most natural form.

Real power - Natural sound
The processing in Safari SP is designed to help reduce the potentially negative effects of traditional compression on important speech cues. Children with severe-to-profound hearing loss are confronted with potentially complex listening environments, and their limited dynamic range forces them to try and ‘fill in the gaps’ in an effort to absorb and learn. Younger children, whose brains have not yet developed this capacity, end up missing important speech information.
Protecting the natural dynamics of speech
For children with severe to profound hearing loss it isn’t just a question of audibility - it’s about maintaining signal fidelity. While super power instruments using conventional WDRC often sacrifice speech resolution and potentially intelligibility to obtain the necessary audibility, Safari SP is engineered to provide both.
Sophisticated Speech Guard technology applies Floating Linear Gain to preserve the peaks and valleys of the speech wave-form, to keep it sounding authentic and distortion-free. In environments with rapidly fluctuating sound levels Speech Guard maintains not only the cues in the speech envelope, but also listening comfort.
Extending the quality of audibility
The audiology concept in Safari SP builds upon the Safari audibility package by including preservation of speech intelligibility as a primary goal. This unique approach helps reduce the limitations inherent when presenting speech to a narrow dynamic range.
